Broken Compass Bluegrass emerged in 2021 and has quickly gained recognition for their tight arrangements, tasteful picking, and standout songwriting. Hailing from Northern California, the band features Kyle Ledson (mandolin/guitar), Django Ruckrich (guitar/mandolin), Mei Lin Heirendt (fiddle), and Sam Jacobs (bass). Though young in years, each member is a seasoned performer, accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and prolific songwriter. Together, they’ve established themselves as one of California’s most exciting and fast-rising string bands. In just a few years, they’ve graced the stages of premier festivals such as Merlefest, High Sierra Music Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, WinterWonderGrass, and Bluegrass in La Roche (France), among many others. Their live shows are not to be missed—equal parts virtuosity and raw energy. Two studio albums of original songs — Fool's Gold (March 2023) and Through These Trees (May 2024) — have been followed by two live records, Live Picks, Vol. 1 (September 2023) and Vol. 2 (November 2025). Kyle, Django and Mei Lin all write; Sam mixes and masters the records. This season the band supports AJ Lee & Blue Summit on a two-night Pirates Ball in Chico and Santa Cruz, plays the Grassfed Music Festival in Nags Head, North Carolina, joins Billy Failing's Holiday Sleigh Ride at Cervantes' in Denver, rings in New Year's Eve with The Infamous Stringdusters at the Boulder Theater, and heads to WinterWonderGrass Steamboat and BajaWonderGrass in 2027.
