Broken Compass Bluegrass emerged in 2021 and has quickly gained recognition for their tight arrangements, tasteful picking, and standout songwriting. Hailing from Northern California, the band features Kyle Ledson, Django Ruckrich, Mei Lin Heirendt, and Sam Jacobs. Though young in years, each member is a seasoned performer, accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and prolific songwriter. Together, they’ve established themselves as one of California’s most exciting and fast-rising string bands.

With a rapidly growing reputation and an ever-expanding fanbase, Broken Compass Bluegrass is making waves as part of a new generation in the jamgrass and progressive acoustic scenes.

In just a few years, they’ve graced the stages of premier festivals such as Merlefest, High Sierra Music Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, WinterWonderGrass, and Bluegrass in La Roche (France), among many others. Their live shows are not to be missed—equal parts virtuosity and raw energy.

Kyle Ledson (mandolin/guitar) and Django Kale Ruckrich (guitar/mandolin) trade instruments from song to song, with Mei Lin Heirendt on fiddle and Sam Jacobs on bass. Kyle, Django and Mei Lin all write; Sam, a graduate of Chico State’s Recording Arts program, mixes and masters the band’s records. Their debut album Fool’s Gold arrived in March 2023, followed by Through These Trees in May 2024 and two live records, Live Picks Vol. 1 (2023) and Vol. 2 (2025).
